State Regulation

It is highly recommended to have at least one manager with a food protection manager certification in North Dakota. However, certain local health authorities go a step further and mandate Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) training.
For instance, starting in 2020, the First District Health Unit (FDHU) requires establishments classified as risk level 2 or those with ten or more food employees to have a CFPM in charge at all times. It's worth noting that different health districts may have their specific requirements.
To become eligible as a CFPM within the FDHU or establishments governed by the North Dakota Food Code, you must complete an approved CFPM course and examination. One option is to enroll in the CFPM course and exam provided by Always Food Safe.

What is a food manager certification?

A food manager is responsible for keeping customers safe by overseeing the safe storage, preparation, and service of food in the workplace. They must pass a test demonstrating their knowledge of food safety practices, and then they are certified to manage food safety practices in the kitchen.

Who needs this certification?

It is a legal requirement across the USA to haveat least one staff member Food Manager trained and on duty at any time in your business. This training gives managers the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to oversee the safe storage, preparation, and service of food in the workplace.

The certificate is valid for up to five years from the date of the exam.
