State Regulation

In Louisiana, it is a legal requirement to have a Food Manager Certification. Always Food Safe's Manager Certification Will Be Accepted By Your Health Inspector and across the USA.

According to LAC 51: XXIII.305, every food establishment must possess a "food safety certificate" issued by the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), either to the owner or a designated employee.

To obtain the LDH food safety certificate, it is necessary to complete an 8-hour food management course offered by an LDH-approved training provider such as Always Food Safe.

Upon course completion, individuals must pass a proctored test approved by the LDH.
 Once the exam is passed, the training provider will issue a certificate as evidence of completion. However, it is important to note that this certificate does not fulfill the legal requirement.

Instead, applicants must submit a completed application to the LDH along with a copy of their exam certificate and a $25 fee. The LDH will then provide the mandatory food safety certificate, which its distinctive gold seal can easily identify.

Upon receiving the state food safety certificate, it must be prominently displayed in an area that is visible to the public.

How long is the food manager certification good for?

The certificate is valid for up to five years from the date of the exam.

To use online proctoring, you will need:

  • A current, government-issued photo ID 
  • A private room to take the exam in. This could be a room in your house, office, or public space so long as people will not be walking in and out.
