Here are some of the state regulations for the California Alcohol Certification: 

  • 60 Days to take training after hire
  • 21 years of age is the minimum age to sell
  • 2 hours of training required
  • Certification renewal is required every 3 years
  • Learners must access the RBS Portal and register before taking training. After training they must return to the RBS portal to take the state exam. An additional $3 is required

You can find your California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Server ID number in the "Server Certificate Details" box on your RBS dashboard:
  1. Go to your server dashboard
  2. Find the "Server Certificate Details" box
  3. Look for the "ID Number" 
You can also find your Server ID number in the registration message you receive from the RBS Portal. The message is titled "Enrollment Registration Completed," and you can access it by clicking on the envelope icon
California requires Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification for anyone who serves, sells, mixes, or supervises the sale of alcohol in a licensed establishment. This includes bartenders, servers, door staff, and security personnel.
