    State Regulation

    Here are some of the state regulations for the New York Alcohol Certification: 

    • Statewide has no timing requirements however many employers have company policies requiring the training to be taken withing 30-60 days of hire.
    • 18 years of age is the minimum age to sell
    • 3 hours of training required
    • 70% is the minimum passing score on the final exam
    • There are unlimited exam retakes
    • Certification renewal is required every 3 years 
    • As part of New York's specialized process; additional PPI is collected.
    • Training only becomes mandatory if an offense occurs

    In New York, an Alcohol Training Awareness Program (ATAP) certification is valid for three years. To maintain certification, you must retake the course every three years.
